● Chelsea
Chelsea are in prime form right now. The blues have bagged more points in the last run of games than any other team in the premiership. Fernando Torres has broken his duck , Malouda has started popping back up on the score board and even Drogba is playing his heart out. It seems like the critics were once again wrong to write us off the title race as we are still very much in title contention after lifting ourselves up from 5th spot to a now comfortable 2nd.
The title is still United's to lose though. A favor from Arsenal is what us fans have been hoping for but knowing Arsenal, it might be just false hope, but you never know.
The game plan for us is simple though. Win every game from now on and hope luck favors us for once. Sometimes thats all you need.
●Tottenham
Tottenham meanwhile have been playing rather average football. Winning only a single game is not a record you would want to brag about but they have also not lost those games.
Tottenham are fifth, four points behind Manchester City who along with Spurs, have a desire to finish in one of the coveted Champions League spots. For Spurs it will give them an opportunity to replay the glories of this year’s campaign, for City, it seems to be the benchmark of successful progress towards the completion of the ‘project’, that is now the basis of the world at Eastlands.
They are perhaps also looking for a miracle to make it to the champions league. The last time around these teams met, it was certainly a thrilling contest despite the 1-1 scoreline.
Team News
● Chelsea
The Blues may not have Ramires available who is out with a hamstring injury, as is Alex, however he has resumed training and may return. A massive boost for them was that the injury which curtailed Michael Essien’s involvement in the game against West Ham is not as bad as it was first feared. The club have reported that he suffered minor tendon damage and will check his availability for the weekend. If Ramires and Essien do not make the lineup, there may be a first start in more than seven months for Yossi Benayoun. Torres has also started his Chelsea goal campaign and once he clicks with Drogba / Anelka or any combination of those three there will certainly be goals aplenty.
Chelsea have chopped and changed their system to accommodate Torres, will Ancelotti revert to a diamond formation, an old fashioned 4-4-2 partnering Torres and Drogba upfront or all three in a 4-3-3? Who will he start? As they say, as a manager it is better to have these types of problems than a threadbare squad.
●Tottenham
News is in that Assou-Ekotto will be unavailable after pulling up during the WBA game; it is likely he will be out for at least two weeks. Corluka who missed that game is also a doubt with an ankle injury. There is better injury news though; Ledley King has resumed light training, although Woodgate, Hutton and Palacios are still not fit to return. It remains to be seen whether Defoe will get a start after scoring his landmark 100th goal for Spurs last week.
Harry Redknapp seems to have found the right combination to accommodate Van Der Vaart, playing wide right with a licence to roam and come in to support the two main strikers. Lennon has to start on the bench but could provide the requisite impact as a substitute. The left back position could be tricky with a variety of options. The most obvious is to play Bale there; bringing Pienaar in to wide left who has more defensive attributes than Kranjcar. Alternatively, leave Bale wide left and play one of the centre halves out left. Bassong has the speed but has he got the full back qualities to combat this very attacking Chelsea side?
